Ink Institute – Taiwan’s Secret Realm – Dalupalringi

Price range: $6.00 through $35.00

Notes from the study: Dalupalringi is an awesome name, and the colour is exactly the colour I imagine ink named after a ghost lake should look. It’s a good greeny-blue with some grey as well. It has a faded feel but I think it actually still holds up against brighter, more pigmented colours. It’s understated, a sort of faded blue jeans colour that you could use every day.

Description

Dalupalringi (Big Ghost Lake) and Taidrengere (Small Ghost Lake), together known as Shuang-guei Lake (Two Ghost Lake), are sacred alpine lakes to the Rukai people of Taiwan.

Believed to be the dwelling places of ancestral spirits, these remote lakes lie high in the Central Mountain Range and are rarely accessed by outsiders. Reaching them typically requires a 3 to 6-day trek on foot, preserving their seclusion and spiritual sanctity.

Dalupalringi reaches 67 meters deep during the wet season, while Taidrengere remains a shallow, marsh-like basin. The lakes and surrounding forests form a rich, protected habitat with many rare species, and are valued not only for their cultural meaning but also for their ecological importance.
